Acceleware Management Team - Michal Okoniewski

Dr. Michal Okoniewski

Chief Scientific Officer, Acceleware Ltd.

A renowned expert in applied electrodynamics and RF/antenna engineering, Michal has a proven history of developing leading-edge scientific solutions for the electronic, medical and energy industries. With over 25 years of experience, Michal has pioneered hardware acceleration of computational electromagnetics, authoring over 350 technical publications and holding several patents. His GPU accelerated FDTD solver revolutionized the engineering of electronic devices and more recently his patents and knowledge are being applied in the energy industry for the production of heavy oils in unconventional reservoirs. Prior to co-founding Acceleware in 2004, Michal worked with TR-Labs and provided consulting services for the electronic and biomedical industries in North America and Europe. Dr. Okoniewski has a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University, Gdansk and is a Fellow of IEEE. He is a Professor for the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department with the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary, Canada.

Acceleware - Pedro Vaca

Pedro Vaca

Senior Reservoir Engineer, Acceleware Ltd.

Pedro is the Senior Reservoir Engineer for Acceleware’s radio frequency heating division. He joined Acceleware in 2012 and brings with him over 30 years of heavy oil and oil sands experience. He is the lead reservoir engineer for a number of collaborative electromagnetic research projects and he has played an integral role in developing AxHeat™ Acceleware’s radio frequency simulation application.

His previous experience also includes reservoir engineering projects for Norwest Corporation, Calgary, and PDVSA, Venezuela. Pedro has a Masters in Applied Mathematics from the Universidad Simón Bolívar in Venezuela.

Acceleware - Damir Pasalic

Damir Pasalic

Senior Research Engineer, Acceleware Ltd.

Damir Pasalic is a Senior Research Engineer at Acceleware Ltd. He received his Ph.D in Microwave Engineering from ETH Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland in 2006. He joined Acceleware in 2007 where he worked on a number of projects involving development of Acceleware's software libraries for numerical simulation of electromagnetic devices and acoustics-based subsufrace imaging. 

In 2012, he joined Acceleware's radio-frequency (RF) heating division as the lead RF engineer. He is working on analysis and development of Acceleware's RF heating systems and has played integral part in the development of AxHeat software application.
