The 75th EAGE Conference & Exhibition incorporating SPE EUROPEC 2013 (in short London '13), is the largest and most comprehensive geoscience event in the world. The six-day programme consists in a large conference and a technical exhibition. An Introduction to Full Waveform Inversion using the AxRTM™ Library

Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) is a technology whose time has come. In this presentation Acceleware will introduce the basic concepts of FWI. We will show, through examples, that FWI is very closely related to the Reverse Time Migration (RTM) method of seismic imaging and demonstrate how the Acceleware AxRTM library may be used to invert seismic data to derive high quality earth models of unprecedented detail.

Making 3D Elastic Modeling a Reality

In this presentation we highlight progress at Acceleware towards making the routine application of 3D elastic modeling a reality. Central to our development plan is an integrated approach based on pioneering algorithmic developments, combined with tailoring the application to specific high-performance hardware. The end result is that the time taken to run full 3D elastic modeling may be reduced by over two orders of magnitude.

Evolution of GPU Computing for Seismic Imaging Workflows

Can you confidently determine where to drill for hydrocarbons to maximize profits? Are you able to accurately predict oil/gas pools before drilling? This presentation will cover how GPUs have evolved to solve complex seismic imaging challenges. Over the past five years, three generations of NVIDIA GPUs have delivered affordable seismic imaging techniques, including RTM and FWI algorithms. During this evolution, earth models have significantly improved, yielding better drilling decisions.

Darren is the product manager for seismic products at Acceleware. He is responsible for the successful development and launch of Acceleware seismic software used by companies world-wide. Darren has over 12 years of experience in developing commercial applications, including Acceleware’s GPU enabled Reverse Time Migration and Forward Modeling libraries. Prior to joining Acceleware Darren worked in the geophysics industry as a software consultant. Darren has a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with a Minor Computing Engineering from the University of Calgary.

Seismic Research Team Lead, Acceleware Ltd.
Ray leads the seismic research team at Acceleware, with particular interests covering Acoustic and Elastic Modeling, Migration and Full Waveform Inversion. He is the principal researcher behind the AxRTM family of products. Prior to joining Acceleware, Ray held various consultancy positions throughout the Oil & Gas, Nuclear and Environmental industries. He has presented at many conferences, including SEG and EAGE, and co-authored numerous publications, including several high-level reports to the UK government. Ray has a Ph.D. in Theoretical Quantum Physics from the University of Manchester.

Ty promotes GPU application development for the Oil and Gas industry. Professional interests include hybrid computing architectures, secure application delivery via remote collaboration frameworks, and workflows that intersect compute with visualization challenges. Ty earned a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the Colorado School of Mines with emphasis on Geophysics/Computer Science.
